1. Zero Conditional sentences

If + present tense, present tense

Example: If you mix red and blue paint, you get purple.

2. Simple Conditional Sentences First Conditional.:

Example: If it rains tomorrow, we will cancel the picnic.

Simple conditional sentences, also known as “first conditional” sentences, describe a potential event or situation and its possible result. They are constructed using the present tense and the future tense, and they often include the word “if.” For example: “If it rains tomorrow, we will cancel the picnic.”


3. Complex Conditional Sentences Second Conditional.:

If + past tense, conditional tense

Example: If I won the lottery, I would buy a house on the beach.

Complex conditional sentences, also known as “second conditional” sentences, describe an unlikely or hypothetical event or situation and its possible result. They are constructed using the past tense and the conditional tense, and they also often include the word “if.” For example: “If I won the lottery, I would buy a house on the beach.”


4. Mixed Conditional Sentences Third Conditional.:

If + past perfect tense, conditional perfect tense

Example: If I had studied harder, I would have passed the test.

Mixed conditional sentences, also known as “third conditional” sentences, describe a past event or situation that did not occur and its potential result. They are constructed using the past perfect tense and the conditional perfect tense, and they also often include the word “if.” For example: “If I had studied harder, I would have passed the test.”

Mixed Conditional Sentences (Third Conditional):
